Mission
The mission of the organization is extended, not modified, by the current project lead. These are the missions, in chronological order, of OSGS's advisor Dr. David G. Novick and the project leads since the creation of OSGS in the fall of 2005

To create an organization that will allow students at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) to become proficient at the art of making video games. OSGS is a student led organization. While people from all over the world are encouraged to participate on it (since it is an Open Source system) the project lead must be an undergraduate student at UTEP who satisfies the necessary requirements. The organization must also educate it's members in the different tools used to develop video games such as:
- Programming languages, specifically C++
- Software engineering tools and design such as: Repositories, Software Requirements Specification document, UML diagrams, Coding conventions, Professional etiquette, etc
- Graphics libraries, specifically OpenGL
Furthermore, other mission goals from JAAA include:
- Having an established time and place to meet every week for UTEP students to work on the project. Currently Saturdays from 11:30am - 2:00pm at the CS building. Meetings will be held wherever the members feel more comfortable, but meeting in the CS building at UTEP is strongly recommended for reasons that may become obvious later on in the project.
- Each member working on his/her area of interest within a game development project.
- Document everything that goes on in the project and inform members of it.
- Establish a way for members to communicate with each other. Currently a bulletin board can be reached is in place in the web site and a listserv, which any person interested in OSGS may join.
- Have members gain experience in the area of game development and build connections with other members who share their same interest.
Also, responsabilities future leaders should have include:
- Be respectful of each and every member
- Promote member success. More responsabilities come with being a leader. I believe that a leader should make sure members achieve their success before the leader's success (as a normal member of the team).
- Find all the neccessary resources for the organization to function properly
- Keep members interested in the project.
- Find useful information that may help members achieve a succesful career in the area of video games.
- Respect past leaders missions and decisions
- Respect copyrigth material
- Give credit where credit is due
Keep the organization alive
